Refreshing an Older Home: Key Concepts
When refreshing this older home, the goal was to create a space that feels refreshing, airy, homey, clean, and natural while incorporating European and transitional design elements. Here are some key concepts we considered:
Color Palette
Used soft, neutral colors to create an airy feel.
Incorporated natural tones like greens, blues, and earth tones for a clean and refreshing atmosphere.
Natural Light
Maximize natural light by removing original blinds and replacing with custom curtains to let in the most light.
Added mirrors to reflect light and create a sense of space.
Updated all existing light fixtures and replaced the bulbs to a brighter white.
Textures and Materials
Opted for natural materials like wood, stone, and linen for a homey feel.
Incorporated a mix of traditional and modern elements for a transitional aesthetic.
Furniture Selection
Chose furniture that combines comfort with clean lines.
Incorporate vintage or antique pieces to add character and warmth.
Decorative Elements
Use of plants and greenery to enhance the natural feel of the space.
Selected artwork and decor that reflect European influences, such as classic paintings or modern sculptures.
Functional Updates
Use of furniture placement to define areas without creating barriers.
Added personal touches with black and white family photos to create a timeless and cohesive look with the rest of the space.
By focusing on these elements, we successfully refreshed an older home, making it feel modern, yet timeless, while creating a comfortable and inviting environment that our clients love.
